At some point John Carmack said Doom was
impossible on the Amiga. Which was tantamount to
waving a red flag at an angry bull. Needless to say,
the Amiga was duly cluster bombed with Doom
clones. Alien Breed 3D 2 (Left), Fears (top Left) and
Gloom (above) all need an accelerator to get the
best out of them.
My very rare Blizzard PPC accelerator (Below)
Putting a very cost effective PiStorm (Raspberry Pi accelerator)
in an Amiga 1200 provides some amazing results.
The original Dune game on the Amiga is
not as well remembered as its sequel
Dune II, but I was totally addicted to
Dune. For an entire week I survived on
Satsumata oranges and KP Skips crisps,
while playing this game, somewhat
addicted.
Syndicate was the pinnacle of early ‘90s
Amiga gaming as far as I was concerned.
The missions, the game play, the
atmosphere was, as far as I was concern,
perfect.
Not the most complex shooter ever
created, but with an interesting take on
history, with some frantic action. I
genuinely loved this mostly forgotten
Amiga gem.
I first saw Shadow of the Beast, running
in attract mode in a shop window, way
back in 1989. My friend, Mark, turned to
me and said “That wouldn’t look out of
place in an arcade.” He wasn’t wrong.
Another iconic game for the Amiga,
heralding from the early ‘90s. The
game is perfect, the sense of humour is
perfect. I loved this game.
Sensible Soccer is one of only two
football games I have ever played, and
enjoyed.
Robocop 3, unlike the movie Robocop
III, is fantastic. It was a sample of what
was to come, and what the Amiga
couldn’t sustain. A fantastically
beautiful and fantastically fun 3D title.
