Opinion
The Acorn Electron was met with a lukewarm
reception in the UK upon release and for anyone
looking for a games machine, maybe it’s bigger
sister, the BBC Model B is more for you.
That aside, the Electron is well supported today
and is a genuinely interesting. It’s a reasonably
robust unit, with replacement parts being readily
available.
Games are still being produced for it and the
Electron Community is warm and welcoming.
Paperboy was an iconic game for the
early 1980s, and appeared on a myriad
of platforms. Including the Electron
Electrobots is a game released only a
couple of years ago. It’s extremely good
and a lot of fun. It’s also, in my opinion,
one of the best looking games on the
system.
If you do play it, at least buy:

Elite on the Electron was my first
exposure to the game. And it boggled
the mind. However, I can’t say I wasn’t
envious of the Spectrum and C64
owners and their versions and BBC
model B owners, with their superior
version.
Frak. There is something so British
about this game. The weird
graphics, the weird sense of humour.
It’s a very odd, hauntingly pretty and
great fun platformer game.
The Electron did get some big name
titles. The Last Ninja being one of
them.
Exile is a well regarded, and well loved game
on the Electron. But I’ve never played it,
despite owning an original copy. So, I won’t
comment on it, other than box art is
wonderful.
By Fair Means or Foul is a boxing game,
that was a multi-platform release,
ranging from the Amiga to the humble
Electron.
Things to plug in the back.
There are a wealth of devices to plug into the
back of your Electron. Classic Parts like the
Slogger (below) or a more modern cartridge
and floppy drive adapters.
