Unpopular opinion: I prefer the original version of Daytona on the Saturn, to the CCE updated version released later. In my opinion the original is more true to the arcade version.
Light Gun games are my absolute favourite. Sega made some epic ones. House of the Dead (Left) but also Virtua Cop are true classics that made it to the Saturn.
For reasons best known to Sega, they felt it necessary to release a version of Virtua Fighter using kid versions of the main VF characters. Why? I have no idea.
I actually preferred Sega Rally II but there is no denying that Sega Rally on the Saturn is an amazing conversion.
Seeing the screen shots of Clockwork Knight in magazines, notably Edge Magazine here in the UK, was something of jaw drop moment.
Virtua Cop and Virtua Cop II (shown) are arcade classics. The Saturn versions were a joy with a light gun and reasonably playable with a controller too.
Virtua Racer on the Sega Saturn is widely considered not one of the platforms greatest moment. But I don’t care, I still like it.Seeing the seagulls take-off at the start of the race on the arcade version, was a great moment for me. I was so pleased to see it faithfully recreated on the home versions.
Installing TerraOnions Mode ODE (OpticalDrive Emulator) allows you to run your favourite Saturn games from hard drive. It doesn’t require a PhD in Electrical Engineering to do either.
